NovFeed produces sustainable fish feed to ensure fish are an affordable, accessible, and healthy food source for rural families.

The Project

NovFeed uses maggots and aquatic plant to produce sustainable, cost-effective fish feed. Fish feed is largely derived unsustainably from ocean caught fish, which destroys marine habitats, drives up fish prices, and consequently contributes to malnutrition. The disposal of organic waste also poses environmental risks, such as flooding and diseases.

NovFeed addresses these problems by using organic waste to grow insect larvae for fish feed. This process reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, which also reduces pollution and related diseases. With this feed, fish mature quickly and with fewer costs, thus increasing farmers’ standards of living.

The feed is derived from indigenous, locally produced, sustainable ingredients and helps protect marine habitats. Reducing costs for farmers increases production and makes fish more affordable, thus improving the health of low- income communities.

Their Vision for the Future

NovFeed looks forward to a future where nutritious, affordable, and sustainable food is accessible to all communities. The team also envisions less environmental pollution and diseases linked to organic waste disposal and malnutrition.
